Count Pyotr Aleksandrovich Rumyantsev (1725-1796) was a Russian commander and military theorist. He also has the rank Field Marshal General. During the Seven Years’ War he commanded the siege and capture of Kolberg. He was also commander-in-chief of the active army during the Russian -Turkish War (1768-1774). For his victories over the Turks at Larga and Cahul which led to the Kyuchuk Kainargy peace treaty, which was favorable to Russia, he was awarded the title “Zadunaisky”. He was the author of military theoretical works. His most famous student was the commander A.V. Suvorov. According to one version he was born in the village of Stroentsy (in present-day Pridnestrovie). On November 29, a presentation of the new stamp “300th Anniversary of the Birth of P.A. Rumyantsev-Zadunaisky” was held at the Bendery Historical and Local History Museum.
