Churches of Pridnestrovie

The Orthodox feast of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin is a sacred holiday for Tiraspol.

The Virgin Mary is considered the city’s heavenly protector. A chapel in her honor has been erected in the center of the capital. The Church of the Intercession once stood on this site and it was  destroyed during the years of the anti-religious campaign.

Every year on October 14, a festive open-air liturgy is held at the chapel. Priests and residents arrived today in a procession. The church service was conducted by Archbishop Savva of Tiraspol and Dubossary. Following the service  a postage cancellation ceremony for the new   set  “Churches of Pridnestrovie” took place. The stamps were cancelled by the President of the PMR V.N. Krasnoselsky, the first President of the PMR  I.N. Smirnov  and the Mayor of Tiraspol  I.P. Tyuryaev, Archbishop Savva of Tiraspol and Dubossary, Chairman of the Government of the PMR A.N. Rosenberg, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the PMR A.V.
