The Year of the Lurking Lyut (Wolf)

The Slavic calendar is increasingly being thinking of as an alternative to the familiar Eastern symbols of the year. In 2026, according to the Slavic totemic cycle, the presiding figure will be the “Lurking Lyut”—a Wolf totem associated with hidden strength, endurance, and the ability to wait for the right moment.

The Slavic calendar, or totemic cycle, is based not on the Eastern zodiac but on its own cycle of 16 totem animals that take turns serving as the year’s patron.

On August 29, a presentation of the new “Year of the Lurking Lyut” postage stamp took place at  the Bendery Historical and Local History Museum. This stamp is the fourth in the “Slavic Totemic Cycle” set.

The stamp has been issued in both perforated and imperforated  versions.

The edition of the perforated stamp is 800 pcs (100 sheets).
