80 years of Victory (I)

On the eve of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory  the State Unitary Enterprise “Stamp of  Pridnestrovie” prepared an issue dedicated to the Heroes of the Soviet Union who were born or lived in the territory of Pridnestrovie.

Preference was given to heroes who had not previously been depicted on Pridnestrovian postage stamps.

On January 25, the first pair of stamps in this set  was presented at the Bendery Post Office.

The stamps feature:

Koval I.N. – a native of the city of Kamenka, an artilleryman. He took part in the battles for Stalingrad, the Battle of Kursk, the Battle of the Dnieper and the Korsun-Shevchenko Operation, and in the liberation of Moldova and Romania. For the heroic crossing of the Dnieper River in 1943  he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.

Zharchinsky F.I. – a native of the village of Rashkovo (Kamensky district), tanker. He fought near Zhitomir, Kiev, Kharkov, Pyatigorsk. Participated in the Pyatikhatka, Kirovograd, Korsun-Shevchenkivska, Uman-Botoshansky and Berlin operations. He died on April 21, 1945 in a battle with the guards of a concentration camp. Posthumously he  received the title Hero of the Soviet Union.

The set is printed in both perforated and imperforated versions.

The edition of the perforated  set  is 4200 pcs. (600 sheets each)

The edition of the imperforated  set  is 700 pcs.(100 sheets each)

Stamp number according to the PMR postage stamp catalog  is No. 1338-1339
