



On the eve of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory the State Unitary Enterprise “Stamp of Pridnestrovie” prepared an issue dedicated to the Heroes of the Soviet Union who were born or lived in the territory of Pridnestrovie.
Preference was given to heroes who had not previously been depicted on Pridnestrovian postage stamps.
On February 8, the second pair of stamps in this set was presented at the Bendery post office.
The stamps feature:
Karpenko A.P. – a pilot of a bomber aviation regiment. He flew more than 266 combat sorties, 236 of which were night flights. On March 13, 1944, he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union. After the war, he lived and worked in Tiraspol and Bendery.
Kolesnichenko S.K. – a native of the village of Gyrtop (Grigoriopol district), a pilot of a fighter aviation regiment. He made about 120 combat sorties, conducted 27 air battles, in which he personally shot down 14 enemy aircraft. On August 30, 1943, he was shot down and killed in an air battle. On September 2, 1943, he was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.
The set is printed in both perforated and imperforated versions.
