The Path to Victory

Mikhail Arkadyevich Pavlotsky was born in Tiraspol, where he graduated from Secondary School No. 6.

He was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council  of the USSR on October 16, 1943, for heroism displayed during the crossing of the Dnieper near the village of Komarin, Bragin District, Gomel Region.

On September 23, 1943, the Assault Reconnaissance Commander Captain Pavlotsky  was the first to cross the Dnieper, seized a bridgehead and covered the crossing of the regiment with fire. In the battle for the nearby village of Berezki  he was the first to break into the enemy’s position and repelled counterattacks for two days. Despite being wounded  he  killed about 50 enemy soldiers.

Georgy Georgievich Chernienko was born in the city of Tiraspol. In the battles of the Great Patriotic War he was from June 1941. Already on the night of June 23, Captain Chernienko bombarded  the Romanian port of Constanta, then he flew to bomb objects in Bucharest, Ploesti, Sulina. The pilots took to the sky 2-4 times a day, bombing enemy columns and crossings.

In May 1942 he was appointed squadron commander. By November 1942, the squadron under his command had carried out 487 combat sorties, in which 4 enemy ships and 6 ammunition depots were destroyed.

By the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council  of the USSR of July 24, 1943, “for exemplary performance of combat missions of the Command on the front in the fight against the German invaders and the courage and heroism displayed in doing so,” Guards Major Georgy Georgievich Chernienko was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the presentation of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal.

On October 25, a presentation and  cancellation of the set of stamps “The Road to Victory” took place in the building of the Tiraspol Main Post Office.

The set is printed in both perforated and imperforated versions.

The edition of the perforated  set  is 4200 pcs. (600 sheets each)

The edition of the imperforated  set  is 700 pcs.(100 sheets each)
