Bendery Historical and Local History Museum is the oldest in Transnistria. It was opened on December 11, 1914. Baron Stuart A.F. – Chairman of the Bessarabian Provincial Zemstvo Council is the initiator and the founder of the creation of the museum in Bendery.
Today the Bendery Historical and Local History Museum is one of the leading ones in Pridnestrovie . Currently Bendery Historical and Local History Museum includes a main museum with a full-profile exhibition and 4 branches: the Museum of Military Glory of Bendery, the Museum of the Iasi-Chisinau Operation in Kitskany, Museum of Revolutionary Military and Labor Glory of Railway Workers, Memorial Museum of the Bendery Tragedy.
The city’s museum complex also includes the original open-air museum “History Frozen in Metal ” . All activities of the museum and its branches are carried out through the main directions and forms of museum work. The museum has the following departments: research-scientifical and research -educational, scientific fund, scientific -methodological, exposition and exhibition.
About 65 thousand museum objects, many of which are unique, are collected and stored in the museum’s storerooms and exhibitions. These are the largest collections of zoology, botany, paleontology, archeology, numismatics, ethnography, photographs, documents and other materials reflecting the centuries-old history of the city.
On December 28, a presentation of the commemorative postal block “Bendery Historical and Local History Museum” took place at the Bendery Historical and Local History Museum.
