Dinosaurs are ancient animals that inhabited Earth. They are represented by many species and each with its own unique characteristics. In ancient times giant bones occasionally found in the ground were believed to be the remains of heroes of the Trojan War. In the Middle Ages and up until the 19th century they were believed to be the remains of giants mentioned in the Bible who perished during the Great Flood. In China they were believed to be the bones of dragons and were believed to have healing properties. The true discovery of dinosaurs occurred in 1824 when William Buckland , a geology lecturer at Oxford, reported to a meeting of the Royal Geological Society the discovery of several bones and a fragment of the lower jaw of an “antediluvian” animal in the Jurassic shale of Stonesfield, Oxfordshire.
On March 14 a new set of stamps “The Age of Dinosaurs” was presented at the Bendery Historical and Local History Museum.
The set is printed in both perforated and imperforated versions.
